Frequently Asked Questions

A Domain Trust Score is a 0-100 rating that combines multiple WHOIS signals — domain age, SSL certificate status, registrar reputation, transfer lock status, registration country, and expiry date — into a single, easy-to-understand safety number. Scores above 70 indicate a trustworthy domain, 40-70 suggests caution, and below 40 means multiple red flags were detected.

Our scam detection system analyzes 6+ red flag indicators: domains registered within the last 30 days, missing SSL certificates, unrecognized registrars, short registration periods (only 1 year), domains expiring within 30 days, and recent ownership changes on old domains. Each flag is rated as HIGH, MEDIUM, or LOW risk with a clear explanation.

Plain English mode translates technical WHOIS data into simple, human-readable explanations. For example, "clientTransferProhibited" becomes "🔒 Transfer Lock: ON — This domain is protected from unauthorized transfer. This is a good security practice." It covers 50+ WHOIS fields including all EPP status codes, dates with relative time, and registrar details.

We use three free, public APIs: RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) for WHOIS data — this is the official successor to the WHOIS protocol, maintained by IANA. Google Public DNS (dns.google) for DNS records. And ipapi.co for IP geolocation. All are free and require no API keys.

Since GDPR (2018), most registrars automatically redact personal information from WHOIS/RDAP records. This is normal and legal. Our Trust Score accounts for this — privacy protection from EU-regulated registrars is treated as neutral, not suspicious.

You can check up to 25 domains at once using the Bulk Check feature. Results display in a table with Trust Score, domain age, SSL status, and expiry date for each domain. You can export all results as a CSV file for your reports.

The Trust Score is a heuristic based on publicly available data. It provides a useful first-pass safety assessment, but should not be the sole basis for financial decisions. Always verify through additional channels — check reviews, look for contact information, and use payment methods with buyer protection.

Yes, 100% free. No registration, no API keys, no hidden costs. We use free public APIs (RDAP, Google DNS, ipapi.co). The tool runs entirely in your browser — no data is stored on our servers.
